Industrial Relations and Safety Communication

Impact’s safety and industrial relations communication practice, Industrial Impact, covers employee communication in businesses with an industrial/manufacturing/mining focus. Its core areas include:

  • Occupational Health & Safety  employee behaviour change program
  • Toolbox  manager communication strategy
  • Enterprise Bargaining Agreements (EBAs) or Workplace Agreements communication

Occupational Health & Safety behaviour change programs

Employee safety should always be a number one priority. Our results, many in organizations with workforces working in potentially dangerous environments, prove the right employee safety communication is a key contributor in helping organisations achieve safety targets and reduce lost time injuries, no matter the industry. The Industrial Impact team works with safety managers and leadership to:

  • Gain a clear understanding of the needs of employees and use this to tailor communication (e.g. level of communication for each audience, language barriers etc)
  • Employee research to gauge existing attitudes to the organisation’s commitment
  • Identify key communicators and their role
  • Develop a set of messages to deliver a call to action to employees
  • Develop a robust employee communication plan including implementation of tactics
  • Develop safety communication workshops and summits to keep line managers focus on their role in a safe culture
  • Develop safety visual collateral that gets noticed in the workplace

Toolbox Communication

With shift work and the type of work carried out in a more industrial environment causing challenges to effective internal communication via a traditional cascade process, Industrial Impact works with management to develop a communication strategy and up skill line managers ensuring toolbox communication is not only consistent but delivered effectively.

Enterprise Bargaining Agreements (EBA) and Workplace Agreements Communication

Organisations managing EBAs typically encounter many hurdles which can have a negative impact on their internal communication and culture and therefore productivity. We use a structured and tailored approach to communicate messages to key stakeholders during EBA negotiations, working with management to:

  • Seek agreement on vital information and gain solidarity between the management team using a ‘BluePrint’ leadership team methodology
  • Identify employee ‘Targets’ and  manager/peer ‘Agents of Change’ during the communication process
  • Remain in control of the negotiation process whilst delivering proactive  internal communication
  • Develop collateral suitable for use during a negotiation
  • Work with CEO messaging and presentations
